Having a child is one of life’s greatest experiences and anyone who wants to or needs to take time out from work has our full support.
But when the time is right, we want parents to come back to us bringing back with them the knowledge and experience we valued and relied on before they left. That’s what Staying Connected is all about.
Staying Connected is a parental leave program that supports employees embarking on and returning from parental leave.
Key features of the program include checklists, tools and resources to keep parents informed during time away, and workshops designed to support parents during the transition.
Primary caregivers can also access up to 10 paid Keeping in Touch days during periods of unpaid parental leave. Let's hear from some of our people who have used Staying Connected.
Sharen Sordo, Project Development Manager, Roads and Maritime
“At the Return to Work workshop I developed my own employee value proposition which outlined my professional goals, the skills and capabilities I bring and the support I need.
“That was really empowering and made me feel like the organisation valued me and the contribution I make.
“I think investing in programs like Staying Connected shows that Transport understands what it takes to retain skilled professional employees through pregnancy, birthing, maternity leave and raising a young family.”
Manisha Joshi Vaidya, Customer Service Officer, Sydney Trains
“Meeting other parents at the Return to Work workshop helped me a lot and made me feel like I wasn’t alone. I could relate to what they were going through and they shared a lot of ideas about flexible working that I wasn’t really aware of.
“Even though I work in an area where the hours of operation of the business aren’t flexible, it opened my eyes to the possibilities for me.
“I’ve since spoken to my manager about a secondment opportunity and to rostering the kind of shifts that are best for me. Even though it hasn’t always worked out, now I know I don’t have to feel guilty about asking the question.”
